JUNIOR COLLEGE ENGLISH LITERATURE

Papers 1,2 & 3

A full H2 English Literature paper comprises 2 papers - one compulsory Paper 1 & one elective paper (Paper 2 or 3). Operating on a 3 week cycle, all components of a secondary-level English Literature paper will be covered. Our curriculum is tailored to the A-Level Examinations and is addressed with content seminars, consultation sessions and guided writing practice.

All books in the official 2025 SEAB syllabus will be covered during content lectures.

Lesson Cycle

*Note: There will be a content seminar every alternate fourth week. 

Week 1 

Content Seminar

Content seminars brief and expound upon different themes and ideas which define the set texts for the syllabus of the year. 

​

Academic studies, study guides and original in-house analysis of texts will be used to build content for the lectures.

​

During this week, students will be responsible for signing up for the lectures for their respective texts OR themes. Take note that lectures will only happen every 6 weeks. 


*One 2-hour lecture with in-built class discussion segments.

Week 2

Unseen Poetry & Prose: Close Analysis

Answer Techniques

Close analysis sessions focus on teaching students how to break poems down into literary techniques and literary significance. Different strategies are taught during every session and modelled by the tutor over and over again.

*Practice: One 2-hour session with facilitated in-class discussion.

Week 3

Guided Practice

Practice questions are set - one for Paper 1 and one for the elective Paper 2 or 3. Students are guided through the questions and provided with question-answering strategies before being given an appropriate time period to complete the given questions. The time given varies from week to week and is derived based on the time given in an actual English Literature examination. 

 

Work will be marked and returned the following week during the consultation session.

Week 4 

Consultation

Review Session

Students will be given a period of time to read and reflect on their marked work. Students will be given one-on-one consultations and teachers will pick out actionable improvement points, observed trends on work given etc. Students may also bring their own schoolwork.  â€‹â€‹
