ABOUT US

ThinkGPT is a boutique English Language & Literature learning centre with a student-centred philosophy. We believe in meeting students where they are at - this means crafting lessons that serve every learner’s specific aims, with a focus on building upon their existing abilities - Whether you aim to clinch an “A-grade” or a “C-grade” from whichever grade you are currently at, it is our firm conviction that no goal is too too ambitious or unworthy.

It is our belief that language is the gateway through which we view, perceive and eventually discern the world around us. Allow us to bring the world and its many perspectives to you.

Let us find your blind spots so that you may use your words in a way truest to you, be it in the examination hall or along the paths you choose to walk in future.

EDUCATORS

Ms Charmaine

Ms Charmaine believes that there are no unsolvable problems when it comes to English language. A cryptic poem or a fluffy question simply has not had the correct tried and tested solution or formula applied. Nothing is too abstract or highbrow to understand, regardless of one’s roots or educational background.

Armed with a degree in English Literature from the National University of Singapore, Ms Charmaine is also well-equipped with in-depth knowledge of the English Language and English Literature. A former teacher from various established tuition establishments, Ms Charmaine is also up to date with the current MOE English Literature and English Language syllabus.

With methodical learning plans and feedback tailored to individual students’ needs, Ms Charmaine’s personal mission is to help her students obtain the fighting chance they deserve to pursue the opportunities they want.

Every student is worthy of being seen.

QUESTIONS

Why do we only offer Secondary 3 and 4 lessons?

We value depth over breadth - it is important to us that we focus exclusively on a limited number of levels to maintain the quality of our lessons and curriculum.

We also believe learning is most effective at the right juncture in one’s learning journey. The urgency and push towards the Singapore- Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate are driving factors which cement learning points. In other words, you are likely to be most motivated to study when a big examination is on the horizon or when you have actually chosen to study the subjects you will be taking for your examinations.

However, if you are currently a Secondary 1 & 2 student who is prepared to make the commitment to improving your mastery of the English Language, you may still attend classes; the skills taught are applicable to all secondary levels.

If you are a Secondary 1 & 2 student who is interested in sharpening your literary analysis skills for Unseen Poetry and Prose, you are also welcome to join us for Paper 1-specific lessons in our 4-week cycle. See the cycle here.

If you are a Secondary 1 or 2 student, talk to us and drop us a message here.

Why do we teach English Language & English Literature concurrently ?

We believe that the English language and the study of literature go hand in hand. To do well in English Literature examinations, one studies the given text to identify significant uses of literary devices and inspired word choices to draw conclusions on themes, ideas etc. To do well in English Language examinations, one does all of the above, but also works backwards to generate relevant themes and ideas in essays. In other words, the skills required for both examinations overlap and build upon each other.

Examination skills are the backbone of our pedagogy - we believe that content is useless without skills. Our curriculum comprises close-reading practice, formulas to identify question types and themes and content lectures.

We tackle the oral examination paper during the 4 week cycle. Mock examinations are compulsory for every student during the oral examination lesson in a particular cycle so all students are able to frequently practice.

How much do our lessons cost ?

We believe in delivering high-quality lessons for an affordable price.
